چکیده

For decades, scientists and engineers have been fascinated by cybernetic organisms, or cyborgs, that fuse artificial and natural systems. Cyborgs enable harnessing biological systems that have been honed by evolutionary forces over millennia to achieve astounding feats. Male moths can detect a single pheromone molecule, a sensitivity of roughly 10 grams. Thus, cyborgs can perform tasks at scales and efficiencies that would ordinarily seem incomprehensible. Semiconductor technology is central to realizing this vision offering powerful processing and communication capabilities, as well as low weight, small size, and deterministic control. An emerging cyborg application is moth flight control, where electronics and MEMS devices are placed on and within a moth to control flight direction. To receive commands on the moth, a lightweight, low power and low volume RX is required. This paper presents a pulsed ultrawideband (UWB) RX SoC designed for the stringent weight, volume and power constraints of the cyborg moth system.

With portable electronics and wireless sensor networks becoming increasingly pervasive, energy efficient radios have become an active area of research [1-3]. A critical figure of merit (FOM) for measuring radio efficiency in such applications is energy per bit. Though sub-nJ/b data reception is achievable for data rates >100Mb/s using optimized coherent architectures [4], there is a need for si...

ISSCC 2006 / SESSION 11 / RF BUILDING BLOCKS AND PLLS / 11 . 6 11 . 6 A 3 to 5 GHz CMOS UWB LNA with Input Matching using Miller Effect

Ultra wideband (UWB) radio communication is capable of a high data rate with low radiated power. A key issue for UWB design is LNA input/output matching over a wide bandwidth: 3 to 5GHz for the lower band and 3 to 10GHz for the entire band. Several UWB LNAs have been proposed in recent years. The UWB CMOS LNA presented in [1] employs a Chebyshev filter for input matching and a source follower f...

A Novel Small E–Ring Shaped Monopole Antenna with Dual Band-Notch Function for UWB Wireless Communications

This paper presents an E-ring shaped printed monopole antenna for UWB applications with dual notched bands performance. In order to generate single frequency band notch function, we applied a U-ring shaped monopole antenna, and by inserting a rectangular ring in the centre of it an E-ring shaped radiating patch created and a dual band-notch function can be achieved. The measured bandwidth of th...
